Are you interested in becoming a reading or math tutor VOLUNTEER? Tutor Training is a 12-hour course in February: Thursday, February 14 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm Saturday, February 16 from 9:00am to 4:00pm Tuesday, February 19 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm RESERVE your place by February 7! English Classes for the Foreign Born (ESL) English for Foreign Born classes teach listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills for those adults whose primary language is not English. Winter 2008 Evening Classes:
ESL BEGINNING - In a comfortable and encouraging atmosphere, adults whose primary language is not English will learn the basic patterns of written and spoken English language. ESL CONVERSATIONAL GRAMMAR – Students will learn grammar forms and meaning in a variety of contexts and have conversation on many different subjects to use grammar. ESL READING – Students taking this course will learn how to identify main ideas and use context clues to define meanings in paragraphs and short writings. ESL SPEAKING/LISTENING – Students will learn how to express needs, wants, and desires using standard spoken English. Students will learn how to vary sentence structure, use of punctuation, and standard grammar and spelling. ESL VOCABULARY – Students will learn words and phrases they are likely to encounter, then have the opportunity to practice these words in spoken and written scenarios. ESL WRITING – Students will learn how to write simple to complex forms of sentences with an emphasis on the use of standard English written grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Adult Basic Education (ABE) This program is designed for ADULTS who want to improve their basic reading, writing, spelling, and math skills. Winter 2008 Daytime Classes:
