HIGH SCHOOL COMPLETION &
You must register for high school and GED classes in person.
Registration is held at Asher School, 14101 Leroy in Southgate at the
following times and dates:
Late Registration: February 3-7, 2014
4:00 PM to 7:00 PM
Classes start on February 3, 2014
WHAT TO EXPECT AT
- Plan to spend approximately 2 1/2 hours to complete registration.
You will take a 2 hour assessment
(TABE or CASAS) in Reading and Math. This assessment will help us
determine what classes to recommend.
- You will meet with an Advisor
for 10-30 minutes to pick your classes.
- To ensure proper class
placement when you enroll, bring a copy of your transcript from
your previous high school(s).
- Please do not bring children to

daytime child care, a $40 non-refundable fee per child is due at
registration for child care.
- Registration Fee:
- Students 16 - 19 years of age on September 1, 2013: NO FEE
- Students 20 years of age or older on September 1, 2013: A non-refundable fee of $7 per course is required at registration.

YES...if you’re 16 or 17 on September 1, 2013. Call 734-246-4633 for a short phone interview. Appointments can be made at a time convenient for you.
NO...if you’re 18 or older on September 1, 2013.
WHO MAY ATTEND
Alternative & Adult Education
- Tuition is free* to anyone 16 years or older (as of 9/1/13),
resident or non-resident, who would like to earn his/her diploma.
Asher Alternative is available for students 16-17 years
of age as of 9/1/13. Prior to registration, a parent or guardian must accompany a student for an interview with the Director or Social Worker. Call 734-246-4633 for an appointment. The Asher Alternative is designed for those students who are seeking an
alternative to their previous education experience and feel
committed to earning their diploma. Students must choose a
full-time schedule that suits individual needs. Options
include varied schedules: Monday-Friday, Monday-Thursday,
traditional school day, late morning start, or afternoon start.
Adult Education Program
is available for students 18 years or older as of 9/1/13
interested in high school completion. Students may choose a part-time
or full-time schedule, daytime or evening, based on each student's
credit needs and availability.
SACE reserves the right to accept
or deny admittance to the program..
GED Certificate Holders
is free* to any student who has a GED certificate who would like to
earn a high school diploma.
note: High school students
currently enrolled in traditional day school will not be permitted to
enroll in adult high school or alternative education.
For students 20 years and older, in
addition to past credits earned in high school, non-traditional credits
may be granted for work/volunteer experience, military service, trade
school courses, college courses, and/or other approved experiences
Non-traditional credits may be applied after the completion of residency
requirements; other restrictions may apply.
CREDIT REQUIREMENTS FOR GRADUATION
To qualify for a
diploma, students must earn 23 credits.
A student'ss transcript will determine if he or she
will be placed in a Standard curriculum or Michigan Merit curriculum.
After evaluation of a student's transcript at registration, specific
curriculum requirements will be available to the student.
A minimum of 2 credits must be earned at Southgate Adult Education,
regardless of credit standing, to earn a high school diploma. Exception:
First semester Advantage Academy students must complete a full-time
schedule to fulfill residency requirements.
